River Arrow

I was down at the nature reserve this morning and I was struck by how much Himalayan Balsam there was this year.( I hope I have the I.D. correct, I am not very good on plants)..There seems to be masses of pink all over the River Arrow at the moment, which whilst looking nice, I believe it is an invasive foreign introduction. although I do not know whether it does much harm.
I have posted some pics of the River Arrow bordering the nature reserve showing some of the
Himalayan Balsam, also a close up pic. I hope I have the I.D. correct or I will have to rewrite this post LOL please click on the pics for a larger image. Also I apologise about the type jumping all over the place, for some reason I cannot get the type to justify properly.

  1. Yes, it looks like Himalayan Balsam, Keith - an excellent flower close-up, btw.
There's a lot of it crowding the riverbanks down here too.

  3. Yes it is Himalayan Balsam and we have the same problem up here in Lancashire the river banks are over run with it.The next time you are down on the banks of the River Arrow palm a ripened flower in your hand and lightly squeeze, the seeds will burst and vibrate in your hand it's a funny sensation.
